Citizen Signature Grand Touring Sport NB1031-53L

Citizen Signature Grand Touring Sport NB1031-53L

Continuing there additions of automatic movements to the Citizen Signature Collection, Citizen has introduced their first diver model in the series.  The new NB1031-53L Grand Touring Sport is going to be the first to feature a screw down crown, have a 60 click uni-directional blue diver bezel, and have an impressive blue dial with orange accents.

The blue dial on this piece is very well executed, using a sandwich type style for the minute/second track on the outer edge of the dial.  The first 15 minutes of the are highlighted in orange, and the rest in white making for a nice subtle accent.  The hour and seconds hand are in white with the minute hand in orange making for an easy indication of minutes passed when coordinated with its blue uni-directional bezel.  The bezel has 60 clicks and functions solid and smooth giving clear indications of what minute marker you are aligned with.

The blue dial definitely has a slight radial pattern to it and looks metallic in certain lights, however, in most situations the dial looks to be a matte blue.  It is sort of an optical illusion with this model as you really have to pay attention to see its detail.  The applied indexes are very thick with generous amounts of lume applied towards the outer edge of the dial.  Finishing on the indexes is mostly brushed but its faceted edges are done in a high polish.

With the new NB1031-53L, you have a 300m water resistance achieved mostly due to its screw down crown.  None of the other Citizen Signature Automatic have had this feature, or this water resistance as of yet.  The crown protector, very similar to the Grand Touring model that came out last year, is still attached to the actual crown through an insert on the side profile.  As the crown is unscrewed and pulled out, you will see the insert protrude from the crown protector as pictured above.

The movement utilized in the Grand Touring Sport is the automatic Citizen produced caliber 9012.  This movement (which was also featured in the original Grand Touring) has 28,800 bph, 24 jewels, a 42 hour power reserve, striping and skeletonized rotor exposing more of the internals.  The rotor is uni-directional winding and moves at a very fast, smooth pace.  You can tell the weight of the rotor is significant, as it throws itself around like a 7750, though this is only a three hand with date.  Very impressive, especially for its price point.

The retail price on the NB1031-53L is going to be $1,195, but is available for order directly on our site for $896.25 HERE.  There will also be a black dialed version with rose gold accents (pictured below) that will retail for $1,295, but sold for $971.25 HERE.

Citizen Signature Grand Touring Automatic NB0070-57E

Citizen Signature Grand Touring Automatic NB0070-57E

As a new part of the Signature Collection by Citizen, the Grand Touring is the latest addition to the lineup using an automatic movement.  With the tremendous success of the Grand Classic line, it is not surprising that Citizen introduced more variety in design using their Miyota 9010 movement, which is made exclusive for the Signature lineup.  With high praise, the affordable self-winding movement now has a case and bracelet design as compared to the Grand Classic.

The 44m stainless steel case and bracelet on the NB0070-57E is built solid and somewhat beefy.  The finish is beautifully done and well executed consisting of mostly brushed on the case, with 2 stripes of high polish running up the bracelet.  Despite its size, it actually wears very comfortably and even though the crown protector looks large, it doesn’t dig into the wrist.  The crown protector has a unique system where part of the crown protector actually comes out with the crown.  This system makes for an easy grab of the crown when necessary.

The dial on this Grand Touring is very unique.  The applied numerals are very 3 dimensional and sharp in design.  The hands are quite large, making for great legibility.     I was truly impressed when seeing the watch for the first time hands on.  It has a ton of individual character.  Even the second hand of the watch has a unique design, especially at the tail end.  The black dial of the piece is protected by a deeply domed sapphire crystal with dual sided anti-reflective coating.

The Grand Touring collection is going to be available in three styles, all the same case design.  The other styles will come on leather straps.  The NB0070-07E will be the same as the NB0070-57E ,but with a brown leather strap. The NB0075-11F will have a black coated case with brown leather strap and rose gold plated hands and indexes.  While all three variations have not been released yet, they are scheduled to arrive by this fall.

As I had mentioned previously, the movement utilized is the automatic 9010, manufactured by Miyota (which is a part of Citizen Watch Co.) exclusively for the Signature Collection.  The unidirectional winding, 24 jewel movement has proven to be a workhorse over the last year of being available.  Its rotor turns with great momentum and fluid motion, which is truly impressive.  Easily rivaling its Swiss counterparts, the 9010 has proven to be a very high quality movement, for an excellent price point.

There is luminescence on all three hands of this timepiece as well as eight of the indexes.  The watch also has a water resistance of 200 meters and is going to have an MSRP of $1,195.  Another tremendous quality for the money piece for Citizen to add to their roster.

Citizen Signature Grand Touring Automatic

We heard there were going to be some new intro’s in the automatics, but this is the 1st time we’re seeing them!  This model will be 44mm, have domes sapphire crystal and the same 9010 automatic movement found in the Grand Classic.  These will be coming to AZ Fine Time in the near future (as they have not been released yet).  Not sure if it will be a spring or fall introduction, but we’ll be sure to keep you posted.

This is just a small taste of what Citizen will be debuting at Basel.  Be sure to follow our blog when we meet with Citizen at the Basel Fair on April 26th!

The Citizen Signature Collection has made some major changes over the last year, eliminating many different variations from the line up and adding new things like the Grand Classic automatic and the Octavia Series.

Citizen Signature Octavia Chronograph Perpetual BL5460-00E

The Octavia series has a couple different variations, a standard 3 hand perpetual and a chronograph alarm perpetual.  The piece in todays blog is the Chronograph Perpetual BL5460-00E with black dial and black polyurethane strap (that has some sharp looking steel accents).

The BL5460-00E is a 42mm stainless steel case, with an octagonal shaped bezel that has 8 screws fixing it in.  The case is a combination of brushed and polished, which is done by hand.  The design of the pushers and crown make to be very comfortable on the wear, and do not dig into your wrist by any means.

The hands and indexes are at a very nice high polish, which gives it an attractive look, but also makes for easy legibility.  The layout of the textured black metal dial also adds to the legibility, allowing the piece to be complicated without being entirely too busy.  The sub dials are marked in white, so they clearly pop off of the dial.

The functionality in this piece is great.  It has a perpetual calendar (so it always knows the appropriate date, month, leap year), a 20th of a second chronograph, alarm, secondary timezone, and 24hr counter to indicate AM/PM.  All of which are controlled by pulling the crown out 1 click and adjusting the mode wheel at 6 o’clock.  The E820 hand assembled Eco-Drive movement is solar powered, and at a full power reserve, can go 8 months in the dark.

Citizen Signature Grand Classic Automatic – NB0040-58A & NB0040-58E

It’s that time of year, when all the new introductions from Basel start trickling in to stores and today at AZ Fine Time, we are proud to announce the new release of the Citizen Signature Grand Classic Automatic collection.

This is one of very few Citizen Automatics to hit the US market.  Citizen, who owns Miyota movements, very rarely uses Miyota automatic movements in the Citizen brand for the US.  This new movement, proprietary 9010 exclusive to Citizen Signature, is above and beyond anything I have ever seen from Miyota.  The 24 jewel self-winding movement features manual wind option, hack, 28,800 bph, and 42 hr power reserve.  The rotor on the new proprietary movement swings like no other, making the self winding very efficient.  Its manual winding and second hand sweep are incredibly smooth.  I have to say, Citizen hit a home run with just this movement alone.

As with all Citizen Signatures, the movement is hand assembled and the case and bracelet are hand finished.  The finish is incredible with a nice combo of brushed and high polished throughout the case and bracelet.  The front has a dual anti-reflective coated sapphire crystal and even the case back uses sapphire crystal to show off the very impressive movement.

One of the best qualities of this piece is the price point, retailing for only $995!  This is going to make for some tough competition for the Swiss competitors for a high quality automatic timepiece at a reasonable price.
