CASIO G-SHOCK GMW-B5000 FULL METAL REVIEW 2018 EXCLUSIVE BASELWORLD RELEASE

Casio G-Shock GMW-B5000 Full Metal Review 2018 Exclusive Baselworld Release

In the spirit of their 35th Anniversary, Casio G-Shock has introduced an all-new (and much anticipated) “full metal” iteration of it’s classic GMW-B5000 watch. With it’s old-school square case and full-metal shock-resistant structure, the G-Shock world went absolutely ballistic when this model (as well as a gold version, and limited edition Japanese Only DLC) was finally introduced at Baselworld 2018.

Besides the throwback, square-like appearance, this new release is almost nothing like it’s original counterpart. Casio aimed to completely reinvent the classic GMW-B5000, not only aesthetically, but by also adding advanced functionality such as tough solar technology (a built-in solar cell that harnesses energy via solar or artificial lighting), their signature Multi Band 6 Radio Controlled Timekeeping, atomic clock accuracy (updates 5-6 times a day), world time featuring 300 different cities, alarm function, 1/100th second chronograph, perpetual calendar, and Bluetooth 4.1 connectivity, which now boasts a “low energy consumption ability”.

When syncing with the “G-Shock Connected” app, you can do everything from setting text reminders (yes, text will show up on the watch), to manually syncing atomic time with the push of a button. All of these features are extremely user-friendly; a quick review with the manual should give you all the information you need (or, call our Casio experts at the store! 1-800-486-3996)

One thing I will note is the weight of this piece. Being all-metal, you’re looking at a healthy weight of 167 grams. This may not seem that hefty to the standard watch collector, but for G-Shock fanatics like myself, I will say that this happens to be one of the heavier G-Shocks I’ve seen in their collection. I’ll also add that this model goes through G-Shock’s notorious (and quite rigorous) durability tests; the folks at Casio have adamantly stated their metal-cased watches can endure the same level of stress a regular G-Shock can take. They also carry a 200m water resistance, so feel free to take your new Full Metal G-Shock swimming or surfing anytime!

In conclusion, I can honestly say that I am blown away by how handsome the GMW-5000 “Full Metal” series came out. Not only that, but Casio’s dedication to readability, durability, and functionality has proved yet again, that the Japanese really do strive for complete and utter perfection when it comes to making a great watch (and their Swiss “brothers in horology” are definitely taking note!)

The GMWB5000D-1 (silver) is retailing for $500, while the gold version, GMW-B5000TFG-9, is going for $600. The limited edition GMW-B5000TFC-1(Japanese Only DLC) model is selling for $1,000, but I wouldn’t hold my breath if you’re looking to get it at that price (or get it at all for that matter.) CASIO G-SHOCK FULL METAL 5000 SERIES COMING SOON TO AZ FINE TIME

CASIO G-SHOCK FULL METAL 5000 SERIES COMING SOON

Posted by Gary Spahr, Kole Hirsh on 12th Feb 2018

Arizona Fine Time is proud to offer the new Casio G-Shock Full Metal 5000 Series

Possibly replacing the DW-5750 revival as the most surprising release of the year, the G-Shock GMW-B5000 series features metal bezels and bands with the classic square shape plus a sapphire crystal, Tough Solar, Multi-Band 6, and Bluetooth V4.1 connectivity. Reminiscent of the solid gold Dream Project concept watch, the GMW-B5000 has two variants: the silver GMW-B5000D-1 and gold GMW-B5000TFG-9. We don’t have any official information from Casio yet but have heard that the watches are limited editions made of steel with a price of around €500 EUR for the silver model and €600 EUR for the gold model.

It is believed that the GMW-B5000 has a full stainless steel housing and screw-back case like the GW-5000-1JF. A European distribution site states that it has a phone finder and flight log memory functions, as well as the usual features like world time, stopwatch, timer, 5 alarms. It is fully shock-resistant and water-resistant to 200 meters. Unlike most 5000-5600 models, it has a LED light instead of the EL backlight. No word yet on if it has call and message alerts like the GB-5600 series did.

The solar panels on the face have a brick pattern that is reminiscent of the first-ever G-Shock DW-5000 and previous DW-5000 anniversary tribute models. This is the first time this brick pattern has appeared on a solar model.
