Fortis Spaceleader Volkswagen Design Chronograph 661.20.32 K

For their 100th Anniversary, Fortis released a number of outstanding limited editions to commemorate their last century of watchmaking.  One of our favorites here at AZ Fine Time is the Fortis Spaceleader Volkswagen Design Chronograph 661.20.32 K.

This Fortis Spaceleader is actually designed by Volkswagen, and has won numerous awards for it’s unique design.  The most intriguing part of its design is the rubber strap that wraps half of the case, only covering the crown/chronograph pushers side of the case.  This unique lay out really stands out at a glance, and is only one cool part of its design.

The case is 43mm and completely high polished.  The thin bezel is partially covered by the custom rubber strap, which as I mentioned, covers the right side and exposes the crown and chrono pushers.  The pushers are very well shaped.  Large and fairly flat up against the case, which makes for easy use and comfort.

The dial on this piece is really well laid out.  The large circular center at the base of the hands makes for an interesting characteristic.  The hands themselves are even uniquely shaped, but still prove to be very legible on its contrasting white dial.  The deeply recessed dial is actually luminescent, glowing an electric blue when in the dark and is protected by anti-reflective sapphire crystal.

The movement is a Valjoux 7750 automatic chronograph which has 28,800 bph and about a 42hr power reserve.  This also features a day/date display, small seconds at 9 o’clock, 30 min counter at 12, and 12 hr counter at 6.
